Wed–Fri 16:00–21:00  ·  Sat–Sun 12:00–21:00  ·  Lincoln, LN3 4NR

What is WEEE, and why can't it go in the bin?

WEEE — Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment — covers almost anything that runs on mains power or batteries: TVs, monitors, printers, kettles, toasters, stereos, games consoles, keyboards and the rest. In the UK it's meant to be kept out of general waste, because electricals contain metals and plastics worth recovering, plus components that shouldn't end up in landfill.

The problem is that getting rid of it properly is a faff. You either load up the car for the tip, wait for a council bulky collection, or pay someone for WEEE removal. Or you could hand it to us.

Free WEEE drop-off and pickup

Smash Palace is Lincoln's rage room, and we run on donated breakables. Old electricals are some of the most satisfying things our customers get to smash — so rather than paying for WEEE disposal, you can give your unwanted kit a second life as a target.

To drop off, send us a message via the contact page or WhatsApp with a rough list of what you have. We'll confirm what we can take and agree a time. Then just pull up outside our unit in Lincoln — free parking right by the door — and hand it over.

Can't get it to us? We'll come to you. Our WEEE collections run on Thursday and Friday afternoons across Lincoln, and we can arrange pickups outside those times when you need one. Collections from further afield may incur a collection fee — we'll always agree it with you before we set off.

Reused, then recycled — landfill is the last resort

The waste hierarchy puts reuse ahead of recycling, and recycling ahead of disposal — and that's exactly how we work. Your electricals are reused first, as targets in the rage room.

Once they've been smashed, everything that can be recycled is recycled. Metals, plastics, circuit boards and glass are sent on for recycling, and landfill is only ever the last option for the small amount that genuinely can't be recovered.

And if you fancy watching an old printer get what it deserves, you can always book a rage room session and do the honours yourself.

A registered upper tier waste carrier

Smash Palace is registered with the Environment Agency as an upper tier waste carrier. That means we're legally able to collect and transport waste electrical equipment — from your home, your office or your business premises — so you can hand your WEEE over knowing it's going to a registered carrier, not a man with a van.

Business WEEE disposal and collection

Upgrading the office, closing a site or just clearing out the comms cupboard? We collect commercial WEEE from businesses across Lincoln — offices, shops, schools, salons, workshops and warehouses.

We take printers and copiers, monitors and flat-screen TVs, desktop PCs, laptops and servers (batteries and storage removed), keyboards, mice, desk phones, routers, switches, cabling, kitchen appliances and more. Under your duty of care, business waste needs the right paperwork — as an upper tier waste carrier we'll provide a waste transfer note for every collection.

Business pickups run on Thursday and Friday afternoons, or at a time that suits your working day if you need something different.

Electricals we take

Desktop computers, laptops, tablets and all-in-one PCs. Servers, server racks, network switches and other IT equipment. Printers, scanners and fax machines. Flat-screen TVs and computer monitors. Keyboards, mice, speakers and desk phones. Kettles, toasters, microwaves, irons and hairdryers. DVD and Blu-ray players, VCRs, stereos, radios and alarm clocks. Games consoles, routers, remote controls and cables. Small white goods like washing machines and dishwashers are welcome too — just ask first so we can plan space.

Everything should be free of batteries, food residue and anything leaking — and please wipe or remove hard drives and SSDs from computers, laptops and servers first. It doesn't need to work — in fact, broken is perfect.

What we can't take

Fridges and freezers (refrigerant gases), old CRT tube TVs and monitors (leaded glass), loose or built-in lithium batteries, fluorescent tubes and energy-saving bulbs, and anything containing mercury, chemicals or gas. These need specialist recycling — your nearest household waste recycling centre in Lincolnshire will take them.

Got non-electrical stuff to clear too? We also take glass, crockery, furniture and more — see the full list on our donations page.

Frequently asked

What does WEEE stand for?

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment — basically anything with a plug, a cable or a battery that you no longer want. Under UK rules it shouldn't go in your general bin, because it contains materials that can be recovered and some that need handling properly.

Are you a registered waste carrier?

Yes. Smash Palace is registered with the Environment Agency as an upper tier waste carrier, so we're legally able to collect and transport WEEE from homes and businesses.

Is it really free?

Yes. Dropping suitable electricals off with us costs nothing — we use them as targets in our rage room, so your old printer is genuinely useful to us. Pickups within Lincoln are available too; loads from further out may incur a collection fee, which we'll agree with you upfront.

When do you do pickups?

Our regular WEEE collections run on Thursday and Friday afternoons across Lincoln. If those don't suit, get in touch — we can usually arrange a pickup outside those times.

Do you collect WEEE from businesses?

Yes. We collect commercial WEEE from offices, shops, schools and workshops — printers, monitors, PCs, laptops, servers, phones, IT kit and small appliances. As an upper tier waste carrier we'll provide a waste transfer note for your duty of care records.

What happens to my electricals after they're smashed?

Everything that can be recycled is recycled. Once items have been through the rage room, the remains — metals, plastics, circuit boards and glass — are sent on for recycling. Landfill is only ever the last resort, for the small amount that genuinely can't be recovered.

Do I need to book a drop-off?

Please message us before you come so we can confirm we can take your items and agree a time. We're open Wednesday to Friday 16:00–21:00 and Saturday to Sunday 12:00–21:00.

Do you take fridges, freezers or old CRT TVs?

No. Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant gases, and old CRT (tube) TVs and monitors contain leaded glass — both need specialist treatment. Take these to a household waste recycling centre or ask your retailer about take-back when you buy a replacement.

What about laptops, phones and things with batteries?

Please remove batteries before handing anything over — lithium batteries can catch fire when damaged, so they can't go in the rage room. Loose batteries should go to a battery recycling point (most supermarkets have one).

Will smashing my old hard drive destroy my data?

A rage room does a satisfyingly thorough job on a hard drive, but we're not a certified data destruction service and don't issue destruction certificates. Wipe or remove any storage first. If you need certified destruction for compliance, use a specialist provider.
